July Monthly Meeting:

Joe McGlothlin
presenting
Timber Frame Construction

Wednesday, July 17th
7:00 PM
@ Carpenters Union 301 Hall

Ever wonder what it takes to build a timber framed structure?  Your questions will be answered at our July monthly meeting when Joe McGloghlin, from The Beamery, will give an introductory presentation on Timber Frame Construction.

Joe is a Timber Frame Craftsman at The Beamery, located in Helmsburg, IN.  This unique business helps with the concept, design and building of unique, one of a kind timber frame structures.  Their homes, lodges, churches, businesses, and other structures can be found all over Indiana.  Joe will have examples of tools, common joints, and lots of photos to help share the typeof craftsmanship that goes into building one of these structures.

**Once again, we will be opening our doors one hour early to give members a bit more time for socializing before the actual meeting begins. Bring a friend, and appetite, and join us at 6:00 PM for this extra time with fellow woodworkers. (Food items will be available for a donation.)

June 2024
Toy of the
Month

Our Toy for the Month for June features the return of The Boorish Bus.  First introduced by John Kneebone back in 2019, this bus is an easy-to-build toy that will put smiles on the faces of kids at Christmas time.

As usual, build 13, keep one, and return the others in a box marked Category 9 and clearly marked on the box.

Pick up your kits from Vince Failla at the monthly meeting in the Carpenters Union 301 Hall. Or contact Vince for more information at 317-408-7511

May 2024
Toys of the
Month

Our Toys for the Month of May are two popular military vehicles, the Jeep and the Tank.  The Jeep is a simple design that requires no template and will be an easy project to build. The Tank requires a bit more work but the results include a cannon turret that actually turns!

Kits for these two vehicles will be available, including wheels, axles, headlights and dowels needed for the builds.  The Tank instructions also include a template for laying out the wheels and shape.

As usual, build 13, keep one, and return the others in a box marked Category 9 and clearly marked on the box.

Pick up your kits from Vince Failla at the monthly meeting in the Carpenters Union 301 Hall. Or contact Vince for more information at 317-408-7511

April 2024
Toys of the
Month

Our Toys for the Month of April are two small keepsake boxes, the Crappie Fish Box and the Escargot Box.  Both have a secret compartment for use in hiding small jewelry or trinkets.

These boxes require a piece of 2x6 and some 1/4" plywood for the top and bottom. Shaped on a bandsaw, the lid is attached on a pivot pin (axle) that also serves as the eye for the characters.

As usual, build 13, keep one, and return the others in a box marked Category 3 and clearly marked on the box.

Pick up your templates from Vince Failla at the monthly meeting in the Carpenters Union 301 Hall. Or contact Vince for more information at 317-408-7511
