Suggestion of ply or other wood for basic bed plat...
Author Last Post
Unfortunately there really isn't enough head space under the loft to add usable drawers.

PS, have you considered drawers in it for storage? Not that any teenager would ever put their stuff up, but you can hope. LOL.

No brainer.  Plywood is stronger.  I would put face strips of hardwood on exposed plywood edges and paint away.  Any A-grade plywood of 3/4" will do the job.

I suspect this is for college and not a museum piece.

Have fun.

I would definitely use a high grade of plywood because it is stiffer and not subject to the movements of a grain pattern. But if solid wood, I would not use poplar because it is so soft and unstable.
Intermediate supports and/ stiffeners will be helpful.

I sketched out a basic bed platform for my teenager to go under his loft. However, for the life of me I can't decide if it's best to go with sheet goods or perhaps use poplar boards. It's only 8 inches high and is going to be painted white.

Any thoughts of a route you'd go?
