John,

I do not have a facebook account because I don"t see the need to have one at this time.

Prefer to just visit in person, and reasons #2&3.  But certainly OK that others enjoy it.

As you may know, the technology committee is trying to improve resources for members who don't go to meetings or happened to miss one, communications amongst members, use of resources and sharing of ideas, plans and projects.  To this end, we have started a YouTube channel and started the development of a new, improved website.  An important part of this plan is the use of Facebook.  We'd like to see members using it on a regular basis to share what's happening in their shops, to see what others are working on and to ask questions just like we do in "Forums" on the existing website.

We'd like to find out how may members are not in apposition to avail themselves of everything that our Facebook page has to offer.

Please respond to this only if you do NOT have a Facebook account.

I do not have a Facebook account because:

1.  I never bothered to set one up.
2.  I don't see the need.
3.  It's complicated and I don't want to go there.
4.  I'm concerned about security/privacy.
5.  Other.  Please explain.

If your response is number 4, did you know that you can have a presence there and be totally invisible to others?

Please send your name and response number to: jchrena@yahoo.com.  Add comments if you wish.

#3 & #4
Jim,

I don’t have a Facebook account because of reasons 4 & 5 (takes too much time per my daughter).

How are you doing with Sketchup?

Best,
Dick Summe

I do not have a Facebook.  I ended my account because of privacy/security and because of all the nastiness that is there.  Specifically, it came out during the Cambridge Analytica imbroglio that if a Facebook member 'A' has a friend 'B' that opts into something that sucks up all 'Bs' personal information, that can also trigger that something to suck up 'As' information too.  For me that is unacceptable and the reports that have followed show it only gets worse with the more we learn.  For me, it's no about being invisible to other Facebook members, it's about being invisible to Facebook, their developers, and whomever else is in the mix- privacy is not possible on that platform.  Facebook is a wreck and I won't return.

That said, this has been a terrific group and I really appreciate all that you do.  I haven't made a meeting but used the online forum and attended the Sketch Up and shellac workshops.  Good show!
